Current Events Affecting Women in Finance

This has been quite a week/month/year (select any of the above) for financial professionals! You can’t open your newspaper, turn on the television or surf the news without hearing a major headline in the business world. Just this week, we learned that Merrill Lynch will be bought out by Bank of America and that Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy. As a result of this economic turmoil, the Dow Jones industrial average plummeted 504 points in one day. I guess if there was a bright side to all of this, we also learned that oil prices are down, but it’s really just a response to the hard times we are facing. Read more >

The Foundation is busy preparing for the JNC in October with several activities on the schedule. The Financial Literacy and Fundraising Lunch will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2008. Denisa Jones, Foundation chair and I will be speaking on "Financial Literacy – How You Can Start Your Own Program." We will talk about the programs available including the FDIC Money Smart program, opportunities for providing financial literacy programs and practical advice for starting a program. Read more >
